Introduction to Matt Skiba and Net Worth

Matt Skiba is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist who holds a net worth of $6 million. He is widely recognized as a founding member of Alkaline Trio and as the guitarist and co-lead vocalist for Blink-182 from 2015 to 2022. Across his decades-long career, Skiba has shaped the punk rock landscape through multiple bands and side projects.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Born Matthew Thomas Skiba on February 24, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, his family moved to nearby McHenry when he was three years old. He started playing piano and drums as a child and later played in early bands like Blunt, Jerkwater, and the Traitors. Skiba studied design at Columbia College Chicago and worked as a bicycle messenger before pivoting to music entirely in 1996, when he switched from drums to guitar and co-founded Alkaline Trio.

Rise with Alkaline Trio

Skiba formed Alkaline Trio in 1996 alongside bassist Rob Doran and drummer Glenn Porter. Dan Andriano later replaced Doran, solidifying the central songwriting and vocal partnership of the group. Their early albums, including "Goddamnit" in 1998 and "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" in 2000, established them within the Chicago punk scene.

The band achieved broader recognition with 2001's "From Here to Infirmary" and the 2003 top-20 Billboard album "Good Mourning." Over the years, with drummer Derek Grant joining the lineup, Alkaline Trio released numerous records such as "Crimson," "Is This Thing Cursed?," and the tenth studio album, "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs," released in January 2024.

Tenure With Blink-182

In 2015, Skiba joined Blink-182 following the departure of founding guitarist and singer Tom DeLonge. Performing alongside bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker, Skiba contributed to the recording lineup and live tours.

His first album with the band was 2016's "California," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. He followed this with the 2019 album "Nine." Skiba's tenure concluded in 2022 when DeLonge returned to the group, prompting Skiba to return his focus to Alkaline Trio.

Solo Work, Side Projects, and Health

Alongside his primary bands, Skiba has maintained various side projects, including Heavens with Josiah Steinbrick, theHELL with Atom Willard, and Matt Skiba and the Sekrets with Hunter Burgan and Jarrod Alexander.

In July 2026, Alkaline Trio canceled UK concerts due to health concerns after Skiba experienced numbness in his hands and feet along with vocal difficulties. Following medical treatment in the United States, he successfully returned to the stage for the band's U.S. tour later that year.
